Embracing Our Body's Ancient Wisdom for Women's Health

As a doula, childbirth educator, and womb wellness practitioner, I’m so incredibly fired up & feel this deep burning desire to scream from the rooftops about how wise, powerful, and divinely designed our bodies truly are!!

I’m fully aware that this notion falls under “counter-culture” “crunchy” “unpopular opinion” as our current culture not only glorifies but DEPENDS on our collective mind-body disconnection & lack of self-trust.

The more time we spend dissociating from our own human bodies and the more we outsource our health & decision making to our medical doctors, the more that the medical industrial complex profits at the expense of our own autonomy and yes, our own wellbeing.

I mean.. just last week the Washington Post, a platform with over 2.5 million online news subscribers, came out with an article titled “Women are getting off birth control amid misinformation explosion” making it seem like women are merely pawns to online “health influencers” instead of empowered active participants of our own health and well-being.

The funny part is (more like infuriating, but we have to laugh), by misinformation they are referring to women sharing their own personal stories about the horrible side effects they experienced with birth control.

The SAME side-effects that are listed in the book-long insert that the birth control comes in.

The SAME side-effects that studies have confirmed time & time again.

I mean the gaslighting couldn’t be more evident.

It’s also sooooo telling how instead of listening to women’s countless experiences with pumping synthetic hormones into an intricately balanced reproductive system as important and VALUABLE insight, many OBGYNs and news platforms like the Washington Post, are grossly dismissing these experiences as “misinformation” as well as dismissing the women who are choosing to experience their natural cycles and finally learn body literacy as having “poor digital hygiene.”

And not even a week later, a popular OBGYN with over 182K followers on instagram, Dr. Franziska, posted a video saying this DIRECT quote:

“Historically we have seen that humans are actually very BAD at reproducing, actually every time we get pregnant and try to birth our baby, our bodies try to OFF us. We were historically NOT meant for this, our bodies are really BAD at this”

It’s obvious to me that the Washington Post article and videos like Dr. Franziska’s are both fueled by OBGYNs growing disappointment that us women are looking ELSEWHERE to learn about our cycles, learn about childbirth, and heal our bodies.

It’s become more & more evident that these kinds of care providers and the medical industrial complex deeply depends on us not trusting our bodies or our intuitions as well as deeply depends on us viewing their medical degrees as the authority of our own health.

The notion that (for THE MOST PART) our bodies are beautifully designed to grow and birth our babies without any medical interventions (when we trust our bodies & feel safe in our environment), communicate with us when something is off balance (symptoms), as well as communicate with us when we’re in our fertile window (biomarkers of fertility), seems to be a direct threat to the current popular OBGYN paradigm.

And this is precisely why women are starting to wake up to the fact that medical degrees mean NOTHING if the only insight & approach offered during our appointments & births are hormone-altering pharmaceuticals & invasive surgeries.

Women are starting to trust themselves as the authority of their own health and wellbeing, instead of outsourcing it to an entity that offers a one-size fits all model of care.

How many women walk into their appointments looking for answers about their irregular cycles, painful periods, hormonal headaches, information about their fertility, hormonal acne, PMS, the list goes on, only to get prescribed a universal bandaid that essentially turns off the basic functions of our uterus and can negatively impact our mental health, brain health, bone health, reproductive health (the list goes on..)

How many pregnant women walk into their appointments desperately looking for confidence and reassurance that their bodies CAN birth their baby only to be met with an utter distrust of the human body like Dr. Franziska’s broadcasted to hundreds of thousands of women on her platform so that all the medical interventions ($$$$) can be justified.. because “we’re actually so bad at this.”

My life’s work as a doula, childbirth educator, and womb wellness practitioner is to inspire us women to deeply trust in our bodies' incredible design and our bodies’ incredible way of communicating with us.

---------------

Some truths that many OBGYNs don’t want you to know ..

You CAN feel confident in tracking your cycle and your fertile window to prevent pregnancy without pharmaceuticals. <3

Your fertility & ovulation are VALUABLE & ESSENTIAL to your entire body’s health and well-being (a function that birth control turns off) <3

You CAN heal from your womb-related health issue without the use of pharmaceuticals. <3

You CAN birth your baby when you feel safe and comfortable in your environment.

Your human body is beautifully DESIGNED to safely birth your baby.

-----------------------------

So don’t EVER let anyone tell you that you can’t get to know your body so deeply and so intimately that you become your own healer. Your own savior.

This is what true women’s liberation means to me. To embrace our body's ancient wisdom for women's health as a collective.

No outsourcing.

No fear.

Just simple trust that our bodies are wise and self-healing when given the right environment.

So, let’s prioritize and teach our youth about fierce & proactive attentiveness to our body’s daily messages.

Let’s prioritize and teach our youth about our powerful, ancient, and wise bodies & intuitions, instead of instilling fear in them that our bodies are inherently flawed... because they're not.

We are actually really good at healing, reproducing, birthing, and thriving when we begin to view ourselves as the authority of our health and wellbeing.
